Tenerife Summer Holiday

Tenerife – We are coming!

The time has finally come and our much awaited holiday is finally around the corner. We have opted for a trip to the biggest of the Canary Islands, Tenerife, and we are already very exited, indeed. Having reached our mid thirties – we have passed the age for visiting discos ;-) and have therefore decided not to go the party location "Playa de las Americas" but have chosen a one week holiday at the former fishing village of El Médano which meanwhile has grown to become a bigger town.
We had booked via internet a holiday apartment near the beach and - according to the pictures - we would very much enjoy ourselves there.
By the way, we that are two women friends who perfectly get along with each other and are looking forward to the holiday we are going to spend together.

Today, it is our departure day. With much giggling and twittering we are standing at Frankfort Airport waiting to be finally allowed to board. And the time has come already. We enjoy our flight and are landing at the airport Reina Sofia in the south of the Tenerife island in due time after 4.5 hours.
Looking out of the window as we approach, we already detect the Teide, Spain's highest mountain, which looks magnificent with its impressive height of 3,718 meters and is snow-capped in winter.
The other thing we notice is the barren landscape which is due to the fact that the south of the biggest Canary Island is much less exposed to rain and growth of the plants is therefore not as vigorous as in the north of Tenerife.

When leaving the plane and walking along the gangway, we are already curious and enjoy the babble of foreign voices around us. We easily find the baggage belt; Tenerife airport is much more clearly arranged than Frankfort airport.
We take our luggage and leave the airport building. The first thing we notice is how the warm wind caresses our faces.
It is wonderful.
The colourful blooms, big palms welcome us on the sunshine island of Tenerife and we enjoy it from the very first moment.
As our destination "El Médano" is not far from the Reina Sofia Airport, we are looking out for a taxi. We greet the taxi driver with a friendly "hola" and he is obviously pleased that we greet him in Spanish. A flood of words pours over us and we do not understand a word but nod smilingly which seems to be the right thing to do. He looks at us in a friendly way, loads our luggage into the car and off we go. During the trip, we are viewing the landscape and enjoy the view on the blue Atlantic Ocean. We are already looking forward to a refreshing bath.

Tenerife - MountainsAfter about 15 minutes, we reach the destination of our journey, El Médano.
We quickly knock on our landlord's door and get the keys of our holiday apartment. We really have an apartment next to the beach, we can hear the roar or the surf and we deeply inhale the excellent air.
The apartment is a dream, furnished in typical Canary style and - which is most important to us - equipped with a huge terrace where we can have breakfast in the morning and enjoy the sunset in the evening. There are even sun loungers available and we are entirely happy.
We arrange our rooms, unpack our luggage and the first thing we want to do now is to head into the Atlantic Ocean. We can hear the waves breaking from our apartment and are entirely in the mood for holiday. We take on our bikini, quickly put on a sunscreen, take our towels and off we are.

El Médano has the most beautiful natural beaches of the island and we walk through the sand feeling the sun on our skin. On our left, we see many colourful sails; this is where the surfers gather. For them, El Médano with its unceasing wind is a real paradise. Colourful sails are dancing on the Atlantic Ocean; this is this the pure holiday feeling. We look for a solitary place, spread our things and watch the sea. It is beautiful.
Then we jump in the waves and enjoy the salt-water on our skin. It is simply terrific.
It is exactly as we imagined.
We relax a little and then slowly return "home".
We quickly take a shower to wash of the remaining sand and then we want to go to town to do some shopping. As we look in the mirror we notice that we are already a little tanned and we are ever so excited.
