We are walking in the direction of the Plaza, which is the meeting point in every town, where markets or concerts take place or where the locals just meet to chat.
The way is covered with plank bridges for easy walking. On the right hand side we always see the Atlantic Ocean and a set of little shops, cafés, and restaurants are lined up on the left.
We stop at a particularly beautiful café and quickly agree. This is where we absolutely need to try a freshly squeezed orange juice and a Cortado, a Spanish specialty coffee.
This was really delicious and as we have learned, this café offers delicious breakfast in the morning. Of course, we will try that.
When we arrive on the Plaza, we first try to get some orientation. Where should we do our shopping? Best ask a local who will certainly know. The first person we ask is friendly enough to help us. He shows and explains and with a little Spanish, English, and German we are able to communicate perfectly. The Canarios we met so far have all been very helpful and friendly.
As soon as we have done the shopping, we take a little Siesta.
We wake up all refreshed and prepare a little snack and try the "Pan", the Spanish white bread, delicious honey from Tenerife and have coffee.
We do this on our terrace, of course, with a sea view, the sun, and a slight breeze.
We feel completely at ease.
In the evening, we dress up and walk to town to look for a restaurant to have our first dinner on Tenerife. We can choose among a Canarian, Mexican, Italian, Chinese, Japanese and even a German restaurant. Today we choose fish and therefore we go to a typical Canarian restaurant. We like the atmosphere, the waitress is very friendly and the menu is in three languages. This is perfect service.
As a starter we have mussels and for the main course we treat ourselves to sole with the famous Canarian Papas Arrugadas, small wrinkly potatoes with a salt crust. You eat them with their peel and they taste really delicious.
To finish the meal we enjoy a Café con leche, coffee with milk. Our fist dinner on our holiday island Tenerife is a complete success.
We have a little walk across town and enjoy the atmosphere on the Plaza and then, we return home.
In fact, by now we are tired and find our beds very appealing. On the terrace, we have a glass of Vino tinto, a Spanish red wine, to finish the day and then we are going to bed.
The next day, we want to rent a car and go to the north, to Puerto de la Cruz. We are very curious about what awaits us there.
